Introduction

As a college community, we do not pay enough attention to the needs of the people around us. We can bring change one step at a time and spread awareness. The last resort as a City College community is activism because that is the foundation of the college. It doesn’t have to reach this point if we as students bring to light the problems of people with disabilities. Accessibility for the disabled community is often an issue on the college campus. “The buildings are old and there can only be so much to change them.” It is something that is not talked about enough, even though there are clubs established like the Access Futures Club. Once an issue was established the issue was to analyze what was impacting the lives of people with disabilities. Many of the given projects involved extensive observations of buildings and their structures. The audience would be the students because when students unite, they can bring change and improve accessibility for students and staff with disabilities.

These issues were discussed in my News Feature story, in which my audience was the City College community, and the purpose was to spread awareness. Issues in which people with disabilities had to choose “their education over their health” were discussed. For the Composition in two Genres, a poster was created to help bring awareness. This would be something that would grab students’ attention as they saw the posters around campus. It encourages students to think about the hardships of others by asking questions. It is important that flyers like this include information about them being able to go somewhere if they want to become a part of the solution. The works present included pathos and imagery as they include descriptions of what students and staff with disabilities have to experience while their time in college.
